With Spring time finally here, the Little Harpeth Smile Squad would like to promote healthy dental habits, especially healthy snack options. Did you know that crunchy, fibrous foods such as apples, pears, celery, and carrots act as a “natural toothbrush.” Cheese, yogurt, and milk provide phosphorus and calcium that are imperative for protecting tooth enamel. Protein rich foods such as nuts, seeds, and eggs are great for strengthening teeth and gums. As always, we recommend plain water to drink. This will help rinse away any remaining food particles. The Smile Squad always recommends avoiding sticky, chewy foods, candy, and dried fruits. We also encourage avoiding sugary drinks, such as, sodas, juices, gatorades, and sparkling water except for special occasions. Fun fact: Dr. Priya’s favorite healthy snack is a banana!
