Brushing your toddlers teeth can be a bit challenging sometimes and it is not uncommon for them to be resisitant to anyone in their mouth. Some children may even want to brush by themselves, which is fine, after a parent or guardian does the brushing for them. The reason we recommend an adult to do the brushing is because children do not have the proper dexterity to brush their own teeth. Here are a few tips you can try to help get in a routine of brushing with your toddler.
1. Distraction: use something that can distract them from the task of brushing. You can try to brush during bath time or while they are laying in the floor watching a movie.
2. You can make a reward chart and have them place a sticker for brushing twice per day. Once in the morning and once in the evening and then having a prize for a certain amount of stickers earned.
3. Make up a brushing song or game and turn it into a fun filled 2 minute session. Most kids love to sing and dance at this age.
